December mini newsletter

A Happy Christmas from everyone at Greenall Guerriero Racing

Since our last newsletter we have not had many runners at all. Midnight Moss finished a gallant second at Doncaster on his seasonal reappearance, just getting beat by a once high-class horse in Rocky’s Treasure, so it was a fantastic start to his season. Straight after that the weather went extremely cold and a lot of racing was called off, so we decided it was the perfect time to give them their flu jabs. We must give them a jab every 6 months so we cannot avoid giving it to them mid-season. Most of the time it has no effect, but just like with humans some of them are slightly ill for a couple of days so it is best to give them all a quiet week, then build them up again which we have done. There is plenty of racing in January so will work well.

Retraining of Racehorses
It’s always nice to follow our ex-race horses and one who is doing really well is Torino. As you can see in the photos he is loving his new life show jumping and eventing. He was not always the most straightforward here when in full training but just shows how well thoroughbreds can adapt, and once out of full training can become such different characters. Going around the farm and using the jumping lane etc definitely helps them develop and then helps them in the future adapt easier.

Wine Tasting
We had a fantastic evening at my parents for wine tasting with Charlie Wormesley. He was very entertaining, and we learnt about a lot of different wines from all over the world. We had to do some blind tasting and guess the grape variety and country of origin which was great fun. The winners – Will and Rachael Dawson and Lee and Angela Martin, had amazing knowledge getting a very high score, closely followed in second by Zoe and Pip Harney.
