A classy filly by the champion stallion in Walk in the Park, with a great pedigree. Her half-sister is ‘Cottesloe Sunshine’, who is a winner of 2 Listed races already the Listed Mares novice hurdle at Punchestown in April, so the dam is very much proven. The dam herself is also a sister to the very good Annacotty.
She got bogged down on horrible ground on debut and was clearly very green having had a very good look at her obstacles.
However, she was seen in a completely different light when only bumping into the very useful Fairy Park on her next start. This was at Dromahane, one of the top point-to-point tracks in Ireland, where multiple graded horses have been seen, including the Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Native River. The winner has since been sold for a lot of money, had a hugen reputation before her debut, and could be a superstar.
The 3rd out of the race has since won to give the form a solid look, and this filly should be a very fun filly on the track. She was highly recommended by a couple of people who had sat on her in her work, and they felt like there was plenty more to come and that she would be the perfect track filly, which also gave us plenty of confidence.
The time of the race was also very good. It was the quickest of the day, being 6 seconds quicker than the 4-year-old geldings race, from which the first and second were sold for a lot of money. It was also quicker than the 5-year-old geldings race, from which the winner was sold for £150,000 and has since won his bumper.
She also joins us from a yard who are very good at bringing them on very slowly, so there is always plenty to come and they have sold plenty of decent horses.
On pedigree, she looks the type of filly to be better suitedat trips short of the standard 3-mile point-to-point trip she has seen so far. This is down to her sisters’ 2 listed wins at 2 miles, and she herself seems to be a forward filly at home with a very high cruising speed, which will hold her in good stead over shorter trips
Being only 4 when we bought her, we wanted to give her time to mature and strengthen her frame as she was still physically immature. This meant we also felt there should be plenty of improvement in her physical health with the right time and patience. Having given her a few months of steady work, this seems to have worked, and she is looking much stronger, which is exactly what we wanted.
She is going nicely here at Stockton and looks like she will be ready to start in a bumper late February/early March. Hopefully, all being well, she can win her bumper and then continue to progress as she goes over hurdles, and ultimately, she should be a lovely chaser too. Given herm pedigree, she should hold some residual value after she is a winner on the track!
