Since our last newsletter, we have had a quieter time with fewer runners. It isn’t unusual for trainers to lay-off their horses mid-season and, with ours not running to form, it was the obvious thing to do. January is often a quieter month anyway with not much racing in the calendar, and it has enabled us to give them a rest as well as update their flu jabs.
We were delighted to win with Chris Cool and Letthetruthbeknown before Christmas; both first time over hurdles. Chris Cool’s win at Bangor gave me enormous personal pleasure having bred him with Pip Harney and Steve Evason. I rode his mother, Cool Friend,
to finish a very close second in the Aintree Foxhunters so, when she retired, the three of us were very keen to breed from her. Sadly she died during foaling the year after having Chris Cool leaving us with just him. This, combined with winning at our local track, made it even more special. He is a lovely big National Hunt type who will improve plenty as he grows and develops.
Letthetruthbeknown is another rangy horse who we have always liked but felt would be a much improved horse for another year of maturing. So, it was very pleasing to see her win in easy fashion at Uttoxeter under Henry Brooke, and her owners, The Myddelton Family, have a lot to look forward to in the future with this mare.
