It has been a long weekend and even though we didn't have a winner I was really pleased with how all the horses ran.
Sandon did a good job watering and the ground was in fantastic condition, Mr Barnacle finished 3rd in an above average Men's open and showed some promise without being knocked about. I was especially pleased with Threapwood, he jumped really well and settled nicely, he is still very green and the penny has not dropped yet, but he stayed on well at the end to finish fourth and I could see him winning very soon. Burdock was a little disappointing and he hung badly and I could not get him around the bend into the home straight so pulled him up, however I ran him at Flagg Moor on Tuesday with a different bit in and he finished a very close second! Sam rode him and gave him a lovely ride, he educated him, got him jumping and hopefully he will build on that next time.
We Went to Eyton on Monday with the old boys, Mr Barnacle and Chibuku and they both ran crackers, Mr Barnacle finished 2nd behind Cedrus Libani and Chibuku finished a close second to the odds on favourite Timeshift in the Confined. I could see them both picking a race up before the end of the season.
I took Family Guy and Burdock to Flagg yesterday, the ground was fairly quick but there wasnt any jar in the ground and I thought it was safe, Sam rode both of mine and Burdock ran a cracker and will learn a lot from the run and needs some more experience before moving up a grade so I was not disappointed not to win with him, even if I beat him on one of David Easterby's horses! Family Guy also ran well, its just so frustrating when you get done on the line, but he will have another chance this season. He was in front for a long time which probably didn't help but the winner was never travelling or jumping so it was hard for Sam to track him, I just think he probably didn't get home with the extended trip and steep up hill finish.
No runners this weekend, will enter at Easingwold, Garthorpe and Chaddesly Corbett next weekend for Chibuku, Mr Trump, The Wychough, Threapwood, Sir Mulberry Hawk and Rydale Lad.
