Stable Star Threapwood made his last appearance on the track on Thursday when running in the historic Newmarket town plate on the opening day of the July meeting. He has been a star since we bought him as a unbroken 3 year old from my old boss Mick Easterby, He has his naughty moments and he has been known for throwing a few bucks and being running loose whether it be on the gallops or on the hunting field. The picture above is of him when he arrived here at Stockton hall 7 years ago.
He first got his head in front on a very cold day at Chaddesley back in February 2012. I was lucky to ride him to victory on 7 of the 9 occasions he got his head in front, the only other jockey who managed to win on him was Sam Allwood who always had a very good relationship with the horse. He has always been a very lazy horse in his races and required a lot of cajoling but was always strong at the finish and has been an ultra-consistent type over the years. He has had provided plenty of owners fun through the years including Angel and Ben Collins who had the pleasure of leasing him of me for 4 years and saw him carry their colours to victory on 7 occasions. The above picture is of him carrying their colours when victorious at Bangor on Dee where he won 3 times.
The local pub ‘The Crown’ got a syndicate together for the following season and he provided them with some great days out including 2 wins with the highlight being when he managed to win the mens open at the local point to point at Bangor on Dee with most of the members there it was a great day for all. He also won a very competitive Mens open which can be seen above at Brocklesby Park. The Ridgeway Racing Club have had him this season and whilst he hasn’t managed to get his head in front he has carried on running with credit and has always tried his heart out even though he probably has some problems these days. We will hopefully hunt him now but im not too sure he will be the best at standing still and waiting at gates! I have a little feeling he might have me tasting dirt once again which I have come so use to over the years.
